***You will need a community membership at either Scenic Acres or Silver Springs or Varsity.  You can purchase a membership to one of these communities without residing in one of them. 


All Skaters will need the following:

  • CSA Hockey Helmet, cage required for PreCanSkate
  • Skates (please ensure they are sharpened)
  • Gloves/Mittens
  • Easy to move in, warm clothing.


  • CanSkate is a dynamic learn-to-skate program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development
  • Skaters will learn a series of balance, control and agility skills taught in six stages.
  • is for participants who can move forward unassisted and complete a full lap around the arena with relative speed.  
  • Skaters require a CSA approved helmet.
  • sessions are instructed by Skate Canada Certified Professional Coaches and delivered in a group format
  • All ice and coaching costs are included in the registration price.

  • Prerequisite(s): successful completion of PreCanSkate or equivalent.

Pre CanSkate

All Skaters will need the following:

  • CSA Hockey Helmet, cage required for PreCanSkate
  • Skates (please ensure they are sharpened)
  • Gloves/Mittens
  • Easy to move in, warm clothing.


  • PreCanSkate is a readiness program for participants who have never skated before or who are not confident with their balance on the ice (regardless of age). 
  • Skaters will learn how to get up and stand on the ice with balance, move forward, move backwards and stop.
  • Skaters require a CSA approved helmet with a cage
  • All ice and coaching costs are included in the registration price.
  • sessions are instructed by Skate Canada Certified Professional Coaches and delivered in a group format.  


CanPowerSkate

All Skaters will need the following:

  • Sticks and CSA approved helmets are required.
  • Skaters must wear hockey skates.  


  • CanPowerSkate is Canada's only nationally regulated NCCP power skating program designed to focus on the development of 15 basic skill sets divided into three fundamental areas: Balance, Control and Agility. 
  • Recognizing that skating is a foundational skill for hockey and ringette
  • This program allows for the opportunity to focus on skating outside of the game or practice.  The program is designed to allow flexibility for progression or an increase in intensity as needed, to cater to the level of skaters in the program.  
  • Teaching and developing the proper skating technique is the main focus of this program.  
  • Our CanPowerSkate sessions are instructed by Skate Canada Certified Professional Coaches and delivered in a group format.  
  • All ice and coaching costs are included in the registration price.  
  • Prerequisite(s): successful completion of CanSkate Stage 4 or equivalent.
